Fanlistings

According to thefanlistings.org a fanlisting is "a place for all fans of a particular show, movie, actor, actress, singer, etc. to come together and build the biggest listing of people from all around the world who are fans of that subject."

Queen

Queen is not only one of my favorite bands, but what I believe to be one of the best rock bands in history. They've spawned amazing songs such as 'Bohemian Rhapsody", "I Want to Break Free", "Bicycle Race", & of course, "Radio Ga Ga". Queen was formed in 1970 in London by Freddie Mercury, Brian May, & Roger Taylor, with John Deacon joining the next year.

Radio Ga Ga

"Radio Ga Ga" is a commentary on the invention of television overtaking the popularity of radio, & how one would listen to radio for their favorite comedy, drama, sci-fi programs, etc. It was written by drummer Roger Taylor. The song was originally called "Radio Ca-Ca", apparently from something Roger Taylor's son once said, & was a slam against radio for a decrease in variety of programming & the type of music played. It was changed to "Radio Ga Ga" because it sounded better, clearer, & rolled off the tongue easier. It is rumored that publishers objected to the title, partly because "caca" in Spanish is "crap".

Video

David Mallet's music video for the song features scenes from the film Metropolis—Freddie Mercury's solo song "Love Kills" was used in Giorgio Moroder's restored version of the film, and in exchange Queen were granted the rights to use footage from it in their "Radio Ga Ga" video. However, Queen had to buy performance rights to the film from the communist East German government, which was the copyright holder at the time. Critics said that the video looked like a "Nuremberg Rally" much to the anti-Nazi Roger Taylor's dislike. In the video there is a part where they list some of their earlier videos (such as "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Flash", and so forth) in a photo album, illustrating the changes and the influence videos received through the years. In the video Taylor tries to turn right in the vehicle but the vehicle moves to his left, he quickly tries to correct this but the video still shows the error.

In the video, a different version of Bohemian Rhapsody was shown. It can clearly be seen that there are flames around the four members of Queen in the clip.

Lyrics

I'd sit alone and watch your light
My only friend through teenage nights
And everything I had to know
I heard it on my radio
Radio

You gave them all those old time stars
Through wars of worlds -- invaded by Mars
You made 'em laugh -- you made 'em cry
You made us feel like we could fly

So don't become some background noise
A backdrop for the girls and boys
Who just don't know or just don't care
And just complain when you're not there
You had your time, you had the power
You've yet to have your finest hour
Radio

All we hear is Radio ga ga
Radio goo goo
Radio ga ga
All we hear is Radio ga ga
Radio blah blah
Radio what's new?
Radio, someone still loves you!

We watch the shows -- we watch the stars
On videos for hours and hours
We hardly need to use our ears
How music changes through the years

Let's hope you never leave old friend
Like all good things on you we depend
So stick around cos we might miss you
When we grow tired of all this visual
You had your time, you had the power
You've yet to have your finest hour
Radio -- Radio

All we hear is Radio ga ga
Radio goo goo
Radio ga ga
All we hear is Radio ga ga
Radio goo goo
Radio ga ga
All we hear is Radio ga ga
Radio blah blah
Radio what's new?
Radio, someone still loves you!

You had your time, you had the power
You've yet to have your finest hour
Radio

All we hear is Radio ga ga
Radio goo goo
Radio ga ga
All we hear is Radio ga ga
Radio blah blah
Radio what's new?
Radio, someone still loves you!
Loves you
